BEHR Premium Wet-Look Sealer (No. 985) Review

BEHR Premium Wet-Look Sealer No. 985 is one of the best-selling clear concrete sealers at Home Depot. It’s a water-based acrylic that adds a high-gloss wet look to concrete, pavers, brick and stone, and it also works as a clear topcoat over BEHR concrete paints and stains.

CoverageAbout 200–450 sq. ft. per gallon (first coat near 200, second near 450)

What It Is

No. 985 goes on milky and dries clear, leaving a glossy film that deepens color. It can be used on new or previously coated, vertical or horizontal, interior or exterior concrete and masonry. If you want less shine, BEHR’s No. 986 Low-Lustre Sealer is the same idea with a lower sheen.

Pros

  • Strong gloss and color enhancement from a water-based product
  • Low odor with soap-and-water cleanup
  • Works as a topcoat over paints and stains
  • Inexpensive and easy to find

Cons

  • Slippery when wet; BEHR warns about this on the label
  • Not for areas right next to pools, surfaces under hydrostatic pressure, or over oil-based products
  • High gloss shows lap marks if not rolled carefully
  • As a film, it wears faster outdoors than penetrating sealers

Who Should Buy It

It’s a good fit for patios, pavers and decorative concrete where you want shine on a budget. Skip it for pool surrounds and shaded steps. See our wet look sealer review and best wet look sealer for pool decks.

Application Tips

  • Let new concrete cure at least 30 days.
  • Apply thin coats with a pump sprayer, pad or 1/4″ nap roller.
  • Don’t apply if rain or heavy dew is expected within 24 hours.
